Peggy Rogers
Peg was appointed to the Commission on the Status of Women in June 2019.
As a lifetime advocate for women’s and girls rights as equal to men, Peg has been involved with various causes uplifting the voices of women and girls.
Peg brings to the Commission over forty years in education and business. She retired as a public school Administrator, and owned and operated a Hallmark Gift shop. During her tenure in the public school arena, she also supervised student teachers, taught graduate classes in education and supported educators at all levels to increase recognition and pay increases.
As an administrator she championed keeping girls in school who were pregnant ages 11-18 by establishing a nursery, public health nursing, school counselors and legal support for the young women with their newborns. She also headed a community based committee of all interested persons in developing and implementing a successful K-12 family life and sex education program in her school district. She directed special education programs and gifted programs, she represented rural special education programs at the national level through the California State Department of Education as well as supervised many educational programs in her district. Earlier in her career she advocated for liberalizing abortion laws, zero population growth and Equal Rights Amendment in both Marin County and Lake Tahoe, CA.
Peg is working as a team member in bringing issues impacting women and girls forward to the media, the policy makers and the general public. She is interested in continuing to engage communities in positive ways solving the difficult issues of dominance vs equality and its imbalance and impact on all of us. She has a “SEA” program of Support, Educate, Advocate for Intimate Partner violence survivors and families. In her role as the family life/domestic violence prevention chair in Rotary District 5130, northwest California counties, she encourages Rotary clubs to take action in their own communities to eliminate abusive behaviors of all kinds as well as support survivors and families who have fallen victim to abuse.
She has been recognized with a" Woman Helping Women" award , Soroptimist International, South Lake Tahoe (2000).
She earned 2 graduate degrees in Psychology (1998 CIIS) and Education (1975 CSU, Sacto)
She is passionate about spending time with her family and husband, gardening, hiking, her art work with gourds and silk painting, and her involvement with Rotary International.
