Community briefing for people impacted by Meyers, Walbridge fires

Santa Rosa,CA | August 26, 2020

People impacted by the Meyers or Walbridge fires are invited to attend an online community briefing on Thursday, August 27, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Residents will hear from Sonoma County officials, Cal Fire, the California Office of Emergency Services and state and local elected officials about fire emergency updates and information about recovery programs and resources.  

Attendees will learn about what help is available to residents and business owners who have been impacted by the Walbridge and Meyers fires in Sonoma County. Officials also will provide details about the Local Assistance Centers, which will be opening soon in the County to support fire victims. Panelists will include officials from the California Office of Emergency Services, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management.  

Panelists also will include Congressional Representatives Mike Thompson and Jared Huffman, state Senator Mike McGuire, Assemblymember Jim Wood, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, Sonoma County Director of Emergency Management Chris Godley, Sonoma County Sheriff Mark Essick, CalFire Division Chief Ben Nicholls and CalFire Deputy Incident Commander Ron Myers.  

Amy Bach, executive director of the non-profit group United Policyholders, also will be on hand to address issues related to evacuation expenses, smoke/ash damage and what to expect in working with insurance providers.  

Members of the media and the public are invited to attend with expanded access to 5,000 people on Zoom and unlimited capacity available on the County of Sonoma Facebook page. The panelists will be taking questions from the public. Make sure to submit questions in advance by emailing them to publicaffairs@sonoma-county.org or submit questions during the briefing through Zoom or by leaving them in the comments area of the Facebook Live post.
