Santa Rosa, CA – April 13, 2016 – Sonoma County Supervisor Shirlee Zane, along with representatives from City of Santa Rosa, Catholic Charities, Santa Rosa downtown businesses and Social Advocates for Youth will join moderator Paul Gullixson from the Press Democrat in a community forum to discuss efforts to address homelessness in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County.
In 2014, Lost in Paradise was held to facilitate a community dialogue on homelessness. This event is a report back on various efforts as well as a look forward to solutions needed. The topics will cover the current initiatives, current impacts and potential next steps.
Third District Supervisor Shirlee Zane commented, “We must remain focused on the struggle of those in need in our community. This forum will both update the community and bring people together to advance all efforts to end homelessness. I expect the discussion will be an informative update, and play a key role in making progress.”
Vice Mayor Tom Schwedhelm stated, Vice Mayor Tom Schwedhelm stated, “The challenge before us is working together as a community to identify comprehensive strategies to address our current homeless situation. It is understandable that we all seek to help people suffering today, but short term actions cannot be our only course of action.”
A panel of key community stakeholders will share insights about:
- The current state of homelessness; and current community impacts;
- Temporary, transitional and permanent housing solutions including long term building of dedicated permanent housing as well as interim, emergency measures
This discussion is part of an ongoing series of public forums intended to present multiple sides of important community issues. This event is open to the media.
