Fort Ross Road Open for Traffic
County Road Crews Complete Repairs Quicker Than Expected
Santa Rosa, CA – March 27, 2014 – Fort Ross Road, approximately two miles north of Cazadero, is now open to traffic thanks to Sonoma County’s Transportation and Public Works road and bridge crews. Severe weather and a subsequent landslide closed the road in early February. The County’s road crew has been working since February 11th to install a viaduct to span the impacted area.
“This massive slide effectively cut off local ridge residents from the town and businesses of Cazadero,” explained Supervisor Carrillo, whose District includes Fort Ross Road. "Our Transportation and Public Works staff began designing the repairs during the weekend of the slide and had boots on the ground within days. The initially expected 3-6 month closure and repair was resolved in 6 weeks by our amazing bridge crew and dedicated engineering staff. Cazadero residents will be filled with joy when the road opens way ahead of even our most optimistic projections.”
The steel viaduct includes an asphalt overlay, and the County will complete additional control measures over the next several weeks. The road will continue to be open to traffic while this work is completed.
