Art Advisory Committee

An appointed committee of five shall meet to make recommendations related to artwork utilizing the tenets of the Art on County Property Policy, which provides guidelines for displaying artwork in facilities owned, controlled or leased by the County of Sonoma.


Administrative Policy # 5-3: Board of Supervisors Agenda Item #10 relating to Art on County Property Policy passed on August 12, 2014, which includes County owned, leased or controlled properties including the following jurisdictions, agencies and governing boards: Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, Sonoma County Water Agency Board of Directors, Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space, District, Board of Directors, Community Development Commission, Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution Control District.


To review proposals for display of original art which have not been solicited by the County or part of an exclusive license or other agreement and to ensure that original art displayed in the County is of high quality. To advise the department head, general manager or executive director of the County department or agency normally responsible over the area in which the artwork will be displayed relate to purchase or selection of permanent, original art as requested.

Membership Term

Committee members shall be appointed for staggered three-year terms. The General Services director will appoint one non-voting staff member to serve as a liaison to the committee. Current County staff members are not eligible for Board appointment to the Committee. Art Advisory Committee members may not serve more than two consecutive terms.

Meeting Schedule

Upcoming meeting: 6:00-7:30 pm on September 6, 2016 - at 2300 County Center Drive, Suite A212, Santa Rosa. The Committee will meet as needed to review and determine what artwork will be displayed (including a mandated annual meeting). General Services Department will send meeting notices to Committee members two weeks in advance of the meetings.

Membership Composition

The Committee shall consist of five members of the community who are knowledgeable in the field of art and appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The Supervisors shall have the ability to nominate a qualified member from their district.
