  • There are often multiple volunteer opportunities in the areas of agriculture and open space. Land stewards work to manage invasive plants, maintain trails and roads, provide stream enhancement, and other tasks that enhance native habitats within multiple ecosystems. Volunteer Patrollers help monitor District owned and protected lands. Volunteers are also sought to assist on various levels with projects and workshops conducted by the Agricultural Commissioner and the UC Cooperative Extension.

  • The County of Sonoma Animal Services department is often seeking volunteers to serve as animal companions – for dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals, or as foster care providers for special needs animals. Additionally, they occasionally seek client service volunteers, photographers, and blanket makers.

  • Volunteers are often needed for helping with art projects and initiatives, volunteering at the Fair, and helping the Economic Development Board with their annual events. 

  • The County of Sonoma offers opportunities for the general public to become involved in local government by serving on local boards, commissions, committees, and task forces, as well as various work groups, coalitions, and councils. This list includes advisory bodies whose members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors or other governmental bodies, and groups where participants are selected by the sponsoring department or agency.

  • The County of Sonoma offers services and programs that support children and youth. Periodically, we seek volunteers to help with various programs such as court appointed special advocates (CASA), dental clinic at Valley of the Moon Children’s Home, and friendly visitors & tutors at Juvenile Hall.

  • The County of Sonoma offers services and programs to the public and specific projects may require volunteer assistance. The opportunities may vary throughout departments and programs, but volunteer support would augment the services provided to the public. Activities may include greeting clients and visitors, data entry projects, helping clients and visitors complete forms.

  • The County of Sonoma offers services and programs to provide crisis support through a variety of programs within the Departments of Health, Human Services, the Family Justice Center, and the District Attorney’s Office. Activities may include administrative and clerical tasks, outreach and follow up to victims, compiling statistical data, providing translation services, etc.

  • The County of Sonoma offers services and program that provide support in the event of a disaster. These include positions that require certification and/or extensive training and many that do not. Opportunities include administrative and clerical support, volunteer firefighters, auxiliary communications services, medical professionals in the Medical Reserve Corps, search & rescue team members, etc.

  • The County of Sonoma offers services and programs related to fire and emergency services. Approximately 300 fire service volunteers support 15 volunteer fire companies. Volunteers are trained and certified to manage a variety of emergencies including fire suppression and rescuing trapped victims. Opportunities also exist to provide support in the areas of administrative and clerical work, mechanical maintenance for firefighting equipment, and fundraising efforts.
