District 5 Demographic and Economic Data

The following demographic and economic information pertains to Sonoma County Supervisorial District 5 which comprises the west county including the coast, Russian River area, city of Sebastopol and west Santa Rosa with a total of 98,575 people and 36,893 households.

People

District 5’s population of 98,575 is expected to rise to 100,882 by 2020 according to ESRI Business Analyst predictions.

  • 31% of residents are of Hispanic origin, tied for the highest percentage with District 4,
  • A median age of 40.9 years old, and this is on par with the county average median age of 40.7 years,
  • Per capita income is $28,420, expected to increase to $32,555 by 2020,
  • District 5 is on par with Districts 3 & 4, with 17.6% of residents attaining a Bachelor’s degree. The educational attainment breakdown of is:
    • 16.2% with less than a High School Diploma,
    • 21% with a High School Diploma,
    • 33.6% with some college,
    • 17.6% with a Bachelor’s degree, and
    • 11.6% with a Professional or Graduate degree.

Out of the 36,893 households in District 5, The median household income of $57,402 is the second lowest in the county but households are relatively evenly distributed between income brackets:

  • 9.8% make more than $150,000,
  • 14.9% making between $100,000 and $150,000, 
  • 13.2% earning between $75,000 and $100,000,
  • 19.8% earning between $50,000 and $75,000,
  • 23.2% earning between $25,000 and $50,000, and
