As we wrap up Fiscal Year 2019/2020 budget season it is important to acknowledge the hard work of a collaborative community that cares deeply about how our tax dollars are allocated. Make no mistake, these are challenging times for balancing any public budget, particularly here in Sonoma County where we continue our recovery from the October 2017 fires, as well as the 2017 and 2019 floods.
Community input always guides government toward better outcomes, and our budget is one prime example. Your voices, your words and your fingerprints are all over the adopted budget.
Below are highlights of what we have accomplished, and what the 3rd District championed:
- Mental health services were one of our top priorities. We added $1.1 million to support peer run self-help centers, and a little over $2 million to fund residential care for people living with mental illness.
- With a growing senior community, we increased funding of the Meals on Wheels program to provide an additional 30,000 hot meals a year for homebound seniors.
- Although previously cut, we added back the funding to Creative Sonoma which supports grants for local artists, because the arts save our souls and bring joy and humanity to life.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you here in Sonoma County!
