As Supervisor to the 3rd District, I am committed to a strong and vibrant local economy. I am pleased to report that Sonoma County is leading the state in job growth. The Sonoma County Economic Development Board (EDB) reports that in May 2013, Sonoma County’s year-over-year job growth was 3% - nearly twice as fast as the state average. In addition, the unemployment rate for Sonoma county was 6.1%, which is the lowest it has been since October 2008.
There’s also good news on the housing front. Sonoma County foreclosures have dropped to the lowest level in six years. Sonoma County continues to be a hugely desirable tourist destination with hotel occupancy rates at 7 year highs. Another important piece of economic data that was reported in Moody’s Fall Local Economic Report is that business costs in Sonoma County are 7% lower than the national average which will help bring new companies and jobs to the area.
All this is good economic news for Sonoma County and residents of the 3rd District.
