Storm Update: Heavy Rains Coming to Sonoma County

Sand pick-up locations and Road closure updates

Published:  December 9, 2014

Heavy RainNational Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain beginning Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2014 and continuing through Thursday.

Because recent rainfall has saturated the soils, minor flooding is also expected in low lying areas.

Public Works will be stock piling sand tomorrow morning for local residents along the lower Russian River. Sand locations will be the Forestville Youth Park on Mirabel Rd and on Armstrong Woods Rd in Guerneville, near the old Rodeo grounds 500 yards north of the fire house. Citizens in those areas can pick up sandbags if needed at the Fire Departments in Forestville and Guerneville.

Sand location information for Petaluma and Santa Rosa residents is also available.

To report dangerous situations such as a tree down across a road or a road inundated with water, please call 911.

To report less serious road situations, please call Road Maintenance at (707) 565-5100.
