What & Why?
Sonoma County Regional Parks Department is updating the existing Master Plan for Maxwell Farms Regional Park, a centrally located community park located in the Springs area of Sonoma Valley, adjacent to the City of Sonoma.
The updated Master Plan is focused on renovations and improvements to existing facilities, as well as new park features based on the current and future needs of the community. Ideas for new park features and infrastructure improvements are being balanced with natural resource values and conservation objectives to chart an exciting and sustainable future vision for the 85 acre park.
Based on feedback Regional Parks received on three conceptual alternative plans, a draft Master Plan was created and presented for review and comment at a follow up Community Workshop held on July 12, 2017, at the Boys and Girls Club at the park. At the meeting the approach to the environmental review process required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the project was also outlined.
The Maxwell Farms Draft Master Plan graphic is now available for review and public comments are welcomed by August 4, 2017 to planner Scott Wilkinson.
Based on feedback from meeting, online review, and follow-up conversations with stakeholders, the Master Plan update will be revised and finalized along with the environmental review. The required CEQA documentation will be reviewed at a meeting of the Sonoma County Environmental Review Committee, and subsequently published with the State Clearinghouse at which time a 30-day public review period will ensue. The goal for completing the Master Plan update and CEQA documentation is December 2017, and bringing it to the Board of Supervisors for approval in early 2018.
