Larson Park Master Plan - Background

Project Background

Larson Park was originally owned and operated by the Valley of the Moon Recreation District until 1987 when Sonoma County Regional Parks assumed responsibility for managing the park.

This neighborhood park is approximately 7.6 acres and features athletic fields, tennis courts, a playground, picnic sites and a community garden run by Nuestra Voz. Sonoma Creek forms the western boundary of the park, and Flowery School sits adjacent and to the north. The Central Sonoma Valley Trail  runs through the park and will eventually connect to Highway 12 and the Sonoma Valley Trail when these segments are built.

In 2013, a Disabled Access Improvement Construction project was completed at Larson Park that improved accessible travel routes to seating areas, picnic areas, and parking areas. Drinking fountains and an accessible picnic table were added.

The ADA project was funded through the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), Park Mitigation Fees, and County allocated Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) funds which allowed Regional Parks to improve access for disabled park users.

Project Funding

Regional Parks secured a limited amount of funding for the preliminary Master Planning work. Construction estimates for renovation and improvement projects will be determined through the planning process, and funding will be identified as grants and other sources become available.
