Kenwood Plaza Park Gazebo

Project Partners

Thanks to the Kirby Family donation, and a tremendous outpouring of support and offers of volunteer labor, materials, and equipment from the public and private businesses, construction of the new gazebo proceeded smoothly.

Sonoma County Regional Parks is particularly grateful to landscape architect and Kenwood resident Don MacNair, who designed the structure and organized the many donations that created this exceptional gazebo. The gazebo is the final major component in the Kenwood Plaza Park master plan and provides a stage and gathering area for community events and activities.

Skilled volunteer workers formed the concrete gazebo platform, paths and stairs, and installed steel columns for the overhead structure. Kenwood Fence Company, John Benward Company, Ahlborn Fence Company, and many other local businesses donated materials and equipment to help complete the project.

The community celebrated the dedication of this new gazebo on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Over 200 people enjoyed music and food with their neighbors, and participated in a silent auction that raised funds for continued improvements at the Plaza and other county parks.

The Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation, along with the Kenwood community, hosted “Jazz, Blues and Barbecue” on October 20, 2013 and raised over $15,000 for this project. The Parks Foundation and community members brought the event back a second time in conjunction with the gazebo’s dedication in 2014.
