Hood Mountain Lawson Expansion

What & Why?

The Master Planning process and approval are complete for the 247-acre Lawson property at Hood Mountain Regional Park & Open Space Preserve. This Master Plan outlines the opportunities for the public to enjoy this property and defines its use and management strategies.

Construction of the new trail from the Lower Johnson Ridge Trail to the Lawson property began in October 2019, work was completed and the trail open for public use in July 2020. The Glass Fire in 2020 caused damaged along the newly open trail with fallen trees and vegetation and minimal damage to signs and trail markers. The trail-bridge was luckily left undamaged, and repairs post fire along the trail are complete. It now provides the first public access to the park after the 2020 Glass Fire.

The fire also destroyed both the Lawson barn and cabin. Contractor crews completed removal of hazard materials left behind by the burned structures.
