Guerneville River Park - Phase II

What & Why?

Regional Parks received grant funding from California Division of Boating and Waterways to develop non-motorized boating access to the Russian River at Guerneville River Park consistent with the master plan. In addition, the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District provided matching grants funds to assist with park development. Public lands with boating and river access in this section of the Russian River is limited, so the new facilities will improve public access opportunities and provide another stop in the Russian River Water Trail.

After several years attempting without success to acquire additional property for access to construct the next phase of improvements, including boat portage, parking, and related amenities, Regional Parks has received approval from Caltrans to provide access from Highway 116 until a more permanent entry can be constructed.  

The entrance from Highway 116 provides access to the east side of the park where additional parking, boat portage ramp, turn-around, picnic sites and paths have been constructed. The new access is for right turn in and right turn out only, so plan your visit accordingly.

What's Next?

The project was publicly bid, and a contract awarded on August 17, 2021 to Hanford Applied Restoration and Conservation. Project construction was completed in October 2022, and we are now monitoring the riparian mitigation work as a condition of the regulatory agency permit and project approval process.
