West County Trail - Forestville Trailhead

What & Why?

This project includes completing the existing 13-mile West County Trail into downtown Forestville by constructing a 0.2-mile multi-use trail from Highway 116 to the current trail terminus near Pajaro Lane.

The project will improve public access to the trail and provide more recreation and non-motorized transportation opportunities. The trail can serve as an access route to local businesses, parks, and schools.

What Next?

In partnership with the Forestville Planning Association, a use permit for the development of the Forestville Town Square (which includes the West County Trail segment) was submitted to the Sonoma County Permit and Resource Management Department (PRMD) in December 2016 for environmental review and approval.

Once the use permit is approved, Regional Parks will proceed with preparing construction plans for the West County Trail. Regional Parks staff will apply for additional grants to fully fund the project.

Please note that the Forestville Planning Association is responsible for the development of the town square and Regional Parks is responsible for extending the West County Trail.
