Rebuilding Progress

Rebuilding TogetherAs of today, the County of Sonoma has issued rebuild permits for 350 single family homes, 25 accessory dwelling units, and 20 bridges. See additional rebuilding data including a map of permitted rebuilds.

Rebuilding permits are also moving forward for the multifamily and commercial properties in unincorporated Sonoma County. Estancia Apartments, located at 4450 Old Redwood Highway, Santa Rosa, will be rebuilt as a 96 unit residential housing project to replace 70 units lost in the 2017 Sonoma Complex Fire. And design review for the project to replace the Cricklewood Restaurant building at 4618 Old Redwood Highway, Santa Rosa is underway.

In other rebuilding news, Rebuild Northbay Foundation and local block captains are working on a volunteer project using donated materials to build a perimeter fence as part of the rebuild in Mark West Estates and Larkfield Estates. Permit Sonoma staff have worked with this group to design a fence that does not require a building permit to reduce costs and shorten the project timeline.

Housing Initiatives

HomeOn July 11, 2018, Permit Sonoma hosted a public workshop to discuss proposed housing initiatives that will be brought before the Planning Commission later this summer. Materials from this meeting are now available online, including fact sheets on the following:

  • Cottage housing developments
  • Simplifying development standards
  • Workforce housing combining districts
  • Mobile home park and condo conversion

The Planning Commission will consider these changes at their August 23, 2018 meeting.

Septic System Regulations

vacations rentalsPermit Sonoma staff have been working on incorporating Board and community feedback into the revised Onsite Waste Treatment Systems (OWTS) Manual. This manual, provides the State-mandated policy, procedural and technical details governing individual onsite wastewater treatment systems (also referred to as septic systems). In the coming months, we will be hosting in-person town hall meetings and providing online engagement opportunities to invite the public to continue to share their feedback on this manual. Information on this community outreach will be available on www.PermitSonoma.org in the coming weeks.
