    To help storm-impacted residents of the Russian River area, Sonoma County’s Permit and Resource Management Department (Permit Sonoma) has opened a temporary permit center January 17, 2017 through and including January 24, 2017 at the Veterans War Memorial building located at 16255 1st Street (at Church Street) in Guerneville. This permit center will process and issue permits for non-structural storm damage repairs. Applicants must be the property owner of record, their authorized agent, or their contractor. Permit processing fees are waived for storm–related damage repair permits.

    Vacation Rentals: All property managers must be certified by January 1, 2018 or the Vacation Rental Permit for the property will be expired. If you serve as the property manager or the 24-hour contact for one or more Vacation Rentals within unincorporated Sonoma County, you are required to take this course and pass the test. (Managers of hotels, motels, campgrounds, or hosted rentals do not need to take this certification course.)

    The County of Sonoma proposes to amend the Zoning Code to regulate cannabis uses consistent with the Medical Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act, including cultivation, nurseries, dispensaries, laboratories, manufacturing, distribution, and transportation. The proposed Medical Cannabis Land Use Ordinance would allow both personal and commercial cultivation of medical cannabis with certain limitations.

    CALGreen is the commonly used term for the California Green Building Standards Code. Since 2013, this new green building code increases water and energy efficiency standards, lowers VOCs in building materials, and decreases the amount of construction waste in landfills. This video explains the September, 1, 2015 requirement for all CALGreen field certification to be performed by a certified agency or inspector; PRMD building inspectors no longer perform this certification.     The PRMD report “Wineries and Spirits Manufacturing and Wholesaling in Sonoma County, October 2014” has been posted to the web. The report discusses County wine industry trends over the last ten to fifteen years. The new webpage also includes datasets for alcoholic beverage manufacturing permits at the local, state and federal levels. The purpose of this study is to help inform the local decision making process related to new wineries and to make winery permit data accessible to the public.

    As directed by the Board of Supervisors, a review of the County’s Vacation Rental program has been initiated. The review process will include a robust community participation process, and will look at a wide range of issues including neighborhood compatibility and vacation rental management. Ways to better enforce the existing vacation rental ordinance provisions will also be examined. For more information or to become involved in this effort, please visit the Vacation Rentals page.
