Historical Records Commission

The Sonoma County Historical Records Commission promotes the preservation of historical records in and about Sonoma County, California. It consists of voting members drawn from county government, county library services, academics, community history, and business and genealogical research fields.

    The Heritage Network is a committee of the Sonoma County Historical Society that attempts to keep all the historical societies, museums, libraries, authors, historians, genealogists, cultural heritage organizations, individuals, and other organizations with an interest in Sonoma County and contiguous area histories in touch with each other, for their mutual benefit.  There are no dues and anyone is welcome to join.  Quarterly meetings are held the second Saturday of each quarter and all interested in history are invited to attend.

    Scheduled Lectures include: "She Came From Nowhere…", using social history in your research; Magnificent, Magical, Mesmerizing Manuscript Collections!; Estate Files: Are you getting the most out of them?; and "I am Poor, Obscure, Plain, and Little", Researching the Invisible Ancestors.

    Dr. Michael D. Lacopo is a retired small-animal veterinarian born and raised in northern Indiana.  He takes a scientific approach to his research as he does to his profession.  Researching since 1980, he has lectured internationally and written for numerous periodicals and journals.  A self-described "all-American mutt," his research skills cover a broad range.

Duties

Make recommendations for records management program and create an informational network; identify preservation of additional governmental business, professional and private records historically significant; encourage local participation; establish liaison with (Sonoma County) Landmarks Commission; Historical Genealogical Society; seek outside funding.

Membership Term

Four years at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors.

Five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors (not by District), consisting of five voting members drawn from the following areas: county government, library services, academic professional historian, community history, genealogical research, and business/professions.
