Volunteer at Animal Services

We believe everyone has something to offer to help our animals, and we need you! We have lots of different jobs that help our furry friends!

We ask for a commitment of 2 to 4 hours a week (8 hours a month) for 4 to 6 months, depending on the job. Youth volunteers 9 to 14 years of age may volunteer with a parent or guardian partner.

Interested? Please read about our Volunteer Positions to find one (or more!) that matches your interests, then sign up for a Volunteer Information Session, where you will learn more about the program and complete our volunteer application form.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Animal Services!

Volunteer Positions

Blanket Maker

Crochets, knits, quilts or sews 22" x 22" bedding for shelter animals, using washable fabric.

Canine Kennel Assistant

Provide hands-on care to the animals, ensuring that the shelter living environment remains safe, clean and as comfortable as possible. Canine Kennel Assistants aid the shelter staff with daily cleaning chores and keeping the adoptable dogs and puppies socialized. They also provide preliminary adoption counseling for our clients.

Client Service Volunteer

Work to ensure that abandoned, owner released or stray (found or lost) animals spend as short a time as possible at the Shelter. They do this by greeting and answering our clients' questions, providing information and support to people who have found or lost a pet (i.e. showing them the impounded animals), and by providing preliminary adoption counseling for our clients.

Feline Kennel Assistant

Provide hands-on care to the animals, ensuring that the shelter living environment remains safe, clean and as comfortable as possible. Feline Kennel Assistants aid the shelter staff with daily cleaning chores and keeping the adoptable cats and kittens socialized. They also provide preliminary adoption counseling for our clients.

Foster Volunteer

Be a superhero! Become an animal foster parent. If helping the neediest pulls at your heartstrings, you might consider becoming an animal foster parent. Fosters provide supportive services for animals to help them get ready for adoption, keep them safe and comfortable while recovering from illness or injury, and provide a calm and stable environment for animals who need the support of a nurturing home to protect their well-being while they await adoption. Learn about our Love me, Foster me program to find out if fostering is right for you.

Love me, Fix me Spay/Neuter Program Volunteer

Our innovative mobile spay/neuter clinic program is the first of its kind in Sonoma County. We need motivated volunteers to help at our mobile clinics by translating for our Spanish-speaking clients, checking-in pets during morning drop-off, assisting the techs and veterinarian with animal care, returning pets to their owners during afternoon pick-up, and working on our neighborhood canvassing campaign.

Website Volunteer

Assists in the production of website updates by taking pictures of adoptable and/or stray animals.
