Two of Animal Services staff members were recognized last week for their work supporting animals and people in our community!
Debbie Christian, Volunteer Coordinator, received the County of Sonoma Department of Health Service’s award for Operational Excellence which recognizes an individual or a team whose actions result in creative improvements and solutions to Department challenges related to limited resources and processes
in need of improvement. Debbie was selected for her work building a strong animal services volunteer team of over 300 volunteers, improving staff morale, and contributing to a successful Field of Dreams fundraising campaign with the animal services volunteers to raise over $80,000 to help rebuild the
dog play yards at the Shelter.
Shirley Zindler, Animal Control Officer, received the American Red Cross of Northwest California’s Real Heroes Animal Rescue Hero award which honors an animal that has protected a human in a time of need or is given to a person who has rescued an animal from a traumatic situation. In addition to her services as an
Animal Control Officer for the County of Sonoma, Shirley founded Dogwood Animal Rescue a year ago. She and her team of volunteers offer low and no cost spay and neuter services, provide medical and rehabilitation, and secure new homes for many pets. Shirley is connected with various
Animal Control locations throughout northern California and southern California to support their needs of rehoming the many pets that come through their doors when they are unable to accommodate them. She complements her work with various other volunteer commitments and activities to raise money for
