Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO)

During the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment, the unexpected startup or release of stored energy can result in serious injury or death to workers. Following appropriate Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) protocols can mitigate the hazard and protect workers.  

Hazardous energy sources include but are not limited to directly energized or stored sources:

  • Electrical
  • Mechanical
  • Hydraulic
  • Pneumatic
  • Chemical
  • Thermal
  • Gravitational
