Free Training Session Two: Water, Energy and Time Efficient Hot Water Systems for New Homes

Gary Klein will provide guidance on how to design, specify, and build hot water systems based on up-to-date thinking and information. Water heating has changed considerably in the past twenty years with increased adoption of on-demand and heat pump technologies. Distribution systems have been rethought. This training is organized by PG&E and is offered in collaboration with County of Sonoma Energy and Sustainability Division and Sonoma Clean Power.

Rebuilding? Before you build, plan for your home's energy efficiency, comfort and a lower utility bill. We invite you to join the Sonoma County Energy and Sustainability Division for a free workshop at Rincon Valley Library.


Free Training Session Three: Advanced Wood Framing, Plus Walls from Straw Bale, Hempcrete, and Earth 

Civil Engineer Bruce King will discuss how advanced wood framing can improve energy performance while carrying structural building loads with less material. In part two, he will describe other enclosure methods such as straw bale, hempcrete and earthen walls, which have all been employed on numerous buildings in California. This training is organized by PG&E and is offered in collaboration with County of Sonoma Energy and Sustainability Division and Sonoma Clean Power.


Free Training Session Four: High Performance Enclosures: Air Tight, Well-Insulated, Properly Ventilated

Mike MacFarland will describe how clear goals, a team approach on the job site, and planning, communication and coordination can help manage costs and result in a well-designed enclosure that provides comfort, good indoor air quality, reduced energy use for heating and cooling. This training is organized by PG&E and is offered in collaboration with County of Sonoma Energy and Sustainability Division and Sonoma Clean Power.


Energy and Water Resource Fair for Farms and Other Ag Properties

Farmers, vineyard and other agricultural small-business owners in Sonoma County can seek advice on energy and water conservation during a free workshop and resource fair at the Sonoma County Farm Bureau. The event will begin with a keynote address by Joseph Button, Sustainability Director at Straus Family Creamery. Representatives from the County, USDA and PG&E along with other programs will be on hand to meet with participants.

This 2-hour class is for late career members who are within 5 years of retirement.


Free Training Session Five: Residential Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC): Small Heat Pumps and Small Furnaces – High Efficiency and More Affordable

Rick Chitwood will explain why setting an air tightness goal for the enclosure and confirming it has been achieved via blower door testing is essential and makes it possible to select small heat pumps and furnaces that cost less than a ‘standard’ furnace. This training is organized by PG&E and is offered in collaboration with County of Sonoma Energy and Sustainability Division and Sonoma Clean Power.
