On Wednesday, September 14, 2016, over 300 County of Sonoma and City of Santa Rosa employees teamed up for the 26th Annual Day of Caring event. Employees worked on many different projects ranging from painting, gardening, landscaping, trail work, and organizing at various non-profits, local parks, and clients' homes.

The 2016 Day of Caring event focused on projects that support initiatives around homelessness and other issues of poverty.
For those that couldn't participate, donations were accepted at the County site on the day of the event (09/14/2016): County Administration Building, 575 Administration Drive, Santa Rosa, CA, 95403 (South parking lot). The Human Resources Department also offered to coordinate collections in employees' work areas, scheduling a drop-off or pick-up of donated items.
Items accepted at Day of Caring donation site:
- Gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories.
- Non-perishable food items.
- Travel-sized toiletries – toothpaste, creams, shaving cream, lotions, etc.
