Construction Permits & Inspections

The Sonoma County Fire Safety Ordinance requires all permits listed in Section 105 of the Amended California Fire Code. The listed are required to be reviewed and inspected by the Sonoma County Fire and Emergency Services Department in all unincorporated areas of the county.
Permit Types

Construction Inspection Request Notice

Construction inspections are scheduled using the automated inspection system (SELECTRON) through Permit and Resource Management Department (PRMD). Inspections are on a 24 hour notification. The telephone number to SELECTRON is 707-565-3551. You must have a issued permit number issued by PRMD

Inspection requests for the areas of Jenner, Timbercove, Annapolis, Sea Ranch, and areas north of Cazadero are conducted Mondays and Fridays only.

Construction Inspections Information


One of the major activities of the division is to enforce the California Fire Code and other fire-related codes and ordinances. Responsibilities include reviewing building construction plans, inspections of new construction for code compliance, conducting fire safety inspections for commercial occupancies, special events, licensed care facilities, vegetation management plans, and site visits.

The division is staffed by Two full-time fire inspectors including Extra-Help. A Fire Services Customer Service staff person is available for walk-in questions Monday thru Thursday 1:00pm to 4:00pm, the Customer Service Desk will be Friday all day.

Site mitigation's and site evaluations are available and require a minimum 1 hour inspection fee. Mitigation's and site evaluations will be conducted at the discretion of the fire inspector. Contact: Steve Mosiurchak to arrange for a site visit.

Construction with out permits:

Any construction with out permits will be subject to fines adopted by State and Local code. If a project is found by a Fire Code Official or a complaint is filed with Sonoma County Building Department or the Sonoma County Fire and Emergency Services Department the violator will be subject to fines prior to the issue of the permit.

Avoid Reinspection Fees:

If a site inspection is requested and the site is not ready when the inspector arrives then a minimum 1 hour inspection fee will be charged to the permit applicant at the discretion of the fire inspector.
