Woman Sentenced to Six Years Prison For Dui Causing Great Bodily Injury Within 10 Years of Two Other Dui Offenses

Santa Rosa, CA  –  July 26, 2017  –  Defendant Ruth Kathryn Fielding, 64 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced on July 25, 2017 by the Honorable Jamie Thistlethwaite to 6 years in state prison after pleading no contest on June 7, 2017.  Fielding pled no contest to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury within 10 years of two other DUI offenses.  She admitted enhancements for causing bodily injury to more than one victim, having a blood alcohol concentration in excess of 0.15%, and a probation limitation for suffering two or more prior felony convictions.  She further admitted to two prison priors.

District Attorney Ravitch stated, “This defendant has repeatedly placed the safety of the community in jeopardy by driving impaired.  It was only a matter of time before she did, in fact, cause significant injury to other motorists.”

The charges resulted from an incident on December 18, 2016, at approximately 1:11 p.m. in which Fielding was driving westbound on Highway 12.  Witnesses observed Fielding’s vehicle enter the intersection of Highway 12 and Los Alamos Road and collide with a Honda CRV that was traveling southbound on Los Alamos Road and had the right of way.  The collision resulted in injuries to the two occupants of the Honda CRV.  Victim Brenda Agresti, 45 years old, suffered a concussion and soft tissue injury.  Victim, Jane Doe, 15 years of age, suffered soft tissue injury.  Fielding displayed signs of impairment at the scene and eventually was determined to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.25%.

The case was prosecuted by DDA David Kim of the District Attorney’s Vertical DUI Unit.  Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The California Highway Patrol headed the investigation.
