Sex Offender Pleads Guilty to Assaulting his Wife With a Loaded Gun

Santa Rosa, CA  –  September 15, 2016  –  Defendant Jose Jesus Mendoza, 27-years-old of Larkfield, plead guilty on September 14, 2016 to charges of assault with force likely to commit great bodily injury on his wife with a loaded gun, and admitted a prior “strike” conviction for lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under fourteen.  Mendoza will be sentenced October 27, 2016 at 9:00AM before the Honorable Patrick Broderick to a term of 5 years and 4 months in state prison.

District Attorney Jill Ravitch stated, “Domestic violence is a serious offense which impacts not just family members but the entire community.  Unfortunately, some individuals victimize those that they profess to care most about.  As such, we will continue to work to hold those people accountable for their actions.”

On August 5, 2016, while driving around Windsor, Mendoza told his wife he wanted to “beat-up” an unnamed individual while waiving around a loaded 9mm handgun.  Mendoza then turned his anger toward his wife and started slamming the firearm around the car, breaking the windshield.  The victim was able to drop-off Mendoza off at a friend’s, drive away in another vehicle, and race back to their shared residence.  There, she collected their children and belongings, and fled to a place of safety.  During this time frame, Mendoza repeatedly called and threatened to “find her no matter what,” and shoot and kill her and the rest of the family.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Evanthia Pappas and assisted by Victim Advocate Makeeba Kadri.
