Petaluma Man Enters Guilty Plea to Attempted Robbery and Possession of Stolen Property Charge for Stipulated Prison Term

Defendant Randy Anthony Solares, 27 years old of Petaluma, pled guilty earlier today in front of the Honorable Dana Simmonds to felony charges of attempted robbery involving the use of a weapon, and felony possession of stolen property.  As a result of his pleas the defendant will receive four years and eight months in state prison when he is sentenced in December of this year.

District Attorney Ravitch stated, “This was an incredibly frightening incident for the victim.  Hopefully the early disposition of the case will allow her to have some closure.”

The charges stem from an incident on August 26, 2018, in which the defendant approached a previously unknown female walking in the area of the Santa Alicia Footbridge in Rohnert Park and attempted to steal her purse.  The victim was able to successfully fight off the defendant who then struck in her in the head with a wine bottle and fled the area.

Following additional reports and follow-up investigation, the defendant was connected to two additional incidents that occurred shortly after the initial attack, one involving the suspect confronting people on the street with a weapon, the second involving a car burglary.  When the defendant was arrested, he was found to be in possession of multiple items linked to the burglary.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Christopher Brown. The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety headed the investigation.
