New Director of Victim Services Appointed

Santa Rosa, CA  –  September 20, 2016  –  Michelle-Carstensen The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Michelle Carstensen as Victim Services Director.  Ms. Carstensen began her career at the DA’s Office in 1995 as a Domestic Violence Counselor, and later transitioned to a Victim Advocate when the units were combined. She participated in the development of a Domestic Violence Court where batterers appear before the same judge and are held to a higher level of accountability as they work through treatment and pay penalties.  Ms. Carstensen grew up in Sonoma County, graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and MA in Counseling, both from Sonoma State University.  She is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist and is passionate about providing services to victims in the criminal justice arena.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Michelle since she joined the DA’s Office, and appreciate her commitment to services for victims in the criminal justice process.  She will bring experience to her leadership role, and will be a valuable member of our management team” said District Attorney Jill Ravitch.

The Victim Services Division includes victim advocates, the victim compensation claims unit and a restitution specialist working together to provide support to victims of crime.  Thus far in 2016 approximately 2,000 victims received services from members of the division, who are located in the DA’s Office and at the Family Justice Center.
