Man Sentenced to Six Years Prison for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated

Santa Rosa, CA  –  September 6, 2018  –  Defendant Robert A. Bosch, 64 years old of Rohnert Park, was sentenced today by the Honorable Robert LaForge to 6 years in state prison after pleading no contest on July 19, 2018 to the charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

District Attorney Ravitch stated, “This is yet another tragic loss of life that could have been easily avoided. Driving while impaired is not only illegal, it is reckless and dangerous. This prison term is an entirely appropriate sentence for this case.”

The charges resulted from an incident on August 23, 2017, at approximately 5:56 p.m. in which Bosch was driving a Ford Ranger northbound on Snyder Lane. Witnesses observed the Ford Ranger make a left turn into the parking lot of University Square directly into oncoming traffic and collide with a motorcycle that was traveling southbound on Snyder Lane and had the right of way. The collision resulted in the death of Fabian Carreras, 23 years old of Rohnert Park. Bosch displayed signs of impairment at the scene and eventually was determined to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.252%

The case was prosecuted by DDA David Kim of the District Attorney’s Vertical DUI Unit. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The California Highway Patrol headed the investigation.
