Man Sentenced to Prison for Drug Possession Conviction

Santa Rosa, CA  –  June 17, 2016  –  District Attorney Jill Ravitch announced today that defendant Jose Miguel Flores-Garcia, 43-years-old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced Thursday June 16th to five years and four months in state prison by Judge Jamie Thistlethwaite after having pled to felony charges in February of this year.  Specifically, Flores-Garcia was convicted of separate charges of possessing methamphetamine for sale and possessing marijuana for sale.  In addition, Flores-Garcia admitted his prior “strike” conviction for a 1998 conviction for grossly negligent discharge of a firearm.  The strike enhancement means that Flores-Garcia will be required to serve a minimum of 80% of the sentence before his release.

The conviction was the result of an investigation carried-out by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) along with assistance from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department where a search warrant was served at the defendant’s residence.  Inside the home law enforcement agents discovered approximately one pound of 99.4% pure methamphetamine, over 100 pounds of mostly-processed marijuana, and thousands of dollars in currency.

District Attorney Jill Ravitch stated, “Based on the sheer volume and concentration of the controlled substances in this defendant’s possession he was clearly engaged in the purchase and sale of drugs.  This type of conduct has far-reaching negative consequences for our community and we are pleased the court imposed a significant prison sentence.”

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Scott Jamar.  Drug Enforcement Special Agent Joshua Craven headed the investigation.
