Defendant Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated

Defendant Ethan Rae Aizikovitz, 25 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced yesterday to four years in state prison by the Honorable Robert Laforge after having pled guilty in April of this year to one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while Intoxicated.

District Attorney Ravitch stated, “This was another tragic loss of life at the hands of an impaired driver in our community. It is imperative that people understand the inherent danger to others of driving while intoxicated.”

The charges resulted from an investigation by California Highway Patrol which found that on March 10, 2017, at 9:27 p.m. an automobile collided with a motorcycle at the intersection of Hall Road and Piezzi Road, in Santa Rosa. The investigation further determined that defendant Aizikovitz struck 20 year old motorcyclist Ricardo Perez as Perez began to slow down at a stop sign. According to witnesses, the defendant, who was traveling behind the victim, did not slow down at the intersection and crashed into the rear of the motorcycle. Aizikovitz’s blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.17 shortly after the collision. The victim was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Javier Vaca, and Scott Uemura. Deputy District Attorney Scott Uemura is assigned to the District Attorney’s Vertical DUI Unit. Funding for this specialized prosecution unit was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Traffic Safety Administration. Officer David Adams of the California Highway Patrol headed the investigation.
