Santa Rosa, CA – April 19, 2016 – District
Attorney Jill Ravitch has announced that defendant Johnny Tasker Douglas, 35
years-old of Oakland, CA, was found guilty by a jury on two counts of robbery
and two counts of assault with a firearm.
resulted from the July 10, 2014 robbery of the Bennett Valley Jewelers.
The defendant and a second robber walked into the store armed with a firearm,
and proceeded to smash the display cases and grab several Rolex watches.
The robbery was interrupted when the store owner confronted the two robbers
with his own firearm. The owner was able to disarm the robbers and
prevent one of them from escaping beyond the parking lot. Douglas, who
did get away, remained at large for several weeks before being arrested.
concluded Douglas was guilty of robbery and assault with a firearm of the store
owner and his employee, both of whom were in the store at the time.
returns to court Wednesday, April 20, 2016 for a determination by the trial
judge on whether the additional allegation the defendant has twice already been
to prison is true.
The case was
prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Mark Urioste, assisted by District
Attorney Investigator Denise Urton. Tim Hughes of the Santa Rosa
Police Department headed the investigation.
