Man Sentenced to Nine Years Prison for Leaving Injured Passengers at the Scene of an Accident

Santa Rosa, CA  –  June 7, 2017  –  Defendant Cory Jorden Ferrere, 30 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced today by the Honorable Jamie Thistlethwaite to 9 years in state prison after pleading no contest on March 3, 2017.  Ferrere pled no contest to charges of leaving the scene of an accident after causing serious injury, and reckless driving causing great bodily injury after suffering two prior convictions for DUI.  Further, he admitted enhancements for suffering prior serious felony convictions.

District Attorney Ravitch stated, “The injuries suffered by these victims were quite traumatic.  Once again, this defendant has proven himself to be a danger to the community.  Not only did he risk the lives of his passengers and fellow motorists with his reckless driving, he then fled the scene of the accident.”

The charges resulted from an incident which occurred on June 6, 2016 at approximately 2:00 a.m. in which Ferrere was driving a Dodge Ram pick-up truck with two passengers on southbound Hwy 101.  Witnesses observed the truck driving erratically and estimated its speed at up to 100 miles per hour.  As the vehicle approached the Todd Road exit, the vehicle spun out, rolled over three times, and crashed into the embankment.  Ferrere got out of the driver’s seat and fled the scene.  His two passengers, left trapped in the overturned truck, suffered serious life-threatening injuries.  Victim Christopher Amadio, 42 years old, suffered a broken neck, lacerations to the head, and nerve damage to his shoulder.  Amadio eventually underwent spinal surgery.  Victim Cory Peltz, 34 years old, suffered a fractured neck, fractured sternum, broken ribs, lacerations, and a severe concussion.  Ferrere did not turn himself in until approximately a week after being contacted by law enforcement.

The case was prosecuted by DDA Jessica Washington of the District Attorney’s Vertical DUI Unit.  Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The California Highway Patrol headed the investigation.
