The Community Engagement and Healing Subcommittee chose to initiate a series of forums to encourage dialogue between law enforcement and members of the community. Our intent was to offer an informal setting where members of the public would be able to ask questions, air concerns and offer suggestions. Our first forum was held at Cook Middle School on April 23, 2014. Participating were Chief Hank Schreeder and 10 members of the Santa Rosa Police Department, ranging from command personnel to patrol officers. We set up approximately 12 circles with each group having one SRPD member and a facilitator/recorder, along with 11 members of the community. Various central themes and suggestions emerged from that meeting.
