Katie Gordon

Katie is a doctoral candidate with the Department of Sociology at Stony Brook University. She earned her master’s in 2018 and holds a bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State University in Sociology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. Her research focuses broadly on gender and political engagement, with an emphasis on factors that facilitate the candidate emergence process for women. Her dissertation work analyzes how feminist collective action frames were used to mobilize women’s increased political participation following the 2016 presidential election.

Katie has been an active member of her campus community, having served on numerous committees serving her department, the graduate student population, and members of the university. She was also recently elected to the Sociological Practice and Public Sociology Council of the American Sociological Association. She also interned with the Sonoma County Women’s Oral History Project during her undergraduate career. Currently, Katie teaches a variety of courses, including the Sociology of Human Reproduction and Social Deviance. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, gardening, and spending time with her family.
