Sonoma County Announces Selection of New Voting System

Santa Rosa, CA  –  August 14, 2018  –  Today, the Board of Supervisors approved a request by County Clerk William F. Rousseau authorizing him to execute a contract with Dominion Voting Systems Inc. for a comprehensive, modern voting system.

The new system known as “Democracy Suite version 5.2” will replace the county’s current 35-year old multi-card ballot and tallying system. Preparations for the transition to the new system will begin soon; however, voters will not use Democracy Suite ballots or accessible voting equipment in polling places until 2019.

County Clerk Rousseau praised the benefits Democracy Suite 5.2 will bring to the county’s voters: “The new system has user-friendly paper ballots, which voters told us was one of their top priorities. Polling places will have modern accessible equipment and because the vast majority of our voters vote by mail we need a paper-based system.” County Clerk Rousseau continued: “With Democracy Suite, we will be able to provide tally updates throughout the canvass and release final results faster.”
