Santa Rosa, CA – January 24, 2019 – Voters in the Palm Drive Health Care District will be first to use Sonoma County’s new modern voting system.
Voters will preview the new ballot design before heading to the polls March 5, 2019. Next week, Voter Information Guides will be delivered; inside, a representation of the actual ballot, called a “Sample Ballot,” is included with other election information.
The new system known as “Democracy Suite” replaces the county’s previous 35-year old ballot style and tallying system. The Registrar of Voters Office purchased the new system following approval by the Board of Supervisors August 14, 2018.
County Clerk Deva Marie Proto applauds the improvements of the new system: “The new system has modern technology and security features but still uses paper ballots, which we know was important to our voters. And the disabled-accessible machine called an ICX also now produces a paper ballot.”
County Clerk Proto continued: “We are revising procedures to include tally updates throughout the canvass, and the ability to release final results much sooner. We will be much more efficient and cost effective.”
