Lower Russian River Area Homeless Shelter and Services Center

Welcome to the website of the Lower Russian River Area Homeless Shelter and Services Center project. Here you can find news and information about the project.

As the administrator of affordable housing programs in Sonoma County, the Sonoma County Community Development Commission (the Commission) also works with other local jurisdictions and nonprofits to reduce homelessness. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors allocated funding to allow the Commission to explore the feasibility of siting a homeless services center and shelter on one of several possible sites in the Lower Russian River area, and to negotiate the lease or purchase of land for that purpose.

River Area Shelter and Downtown Task Group (RASAD)

In 2011, the former Sonoma County Community Redevelopment Agency convened a stakeholder group called the River Area Shelter and Downtown Task Group (RASAD) to find mutually agreeable solutions to the locate and develop a permanent shelter solution for homeless people in the lower Russian River area. The task group made several recommendations which were presented to the public and published as a report.

This valuable research and several of these recommendations have been incorporated into the current effort to explore the development of a homeless shelter and services center.
