The County of Sonoma’s Art Advisory Committee, in conjunction with General Services and Transportation and Public Works, has recently completed its debut application review and project approval of the mural at the Willow Creek Bridge in West County. The project, completed on July 31, 2016, highlights the County’s Public Art Policy, adopted by the Board in 2014, which established guidelines for public art on County owned, leased or controlled properties.
The project was submitted by Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, Raizes Collective and Local Artist Nayabei Barretto- partnering at their 2016 Youth Environmental Summit providing students the opportunity to paint the mural- depicting the traditional wildlife and eco-system of the creek.
The Board-appointed Art Advisory Committee reviewed the application in a series of meetings, provided feedback and ultimately approved the application for final review and ratification by the County.
The result was a successful weekend, with the children doing a fabulous job- engaging in civic pride and having fun as a team in the outdoors. General Services, who administers the Art Advisory Committee and Public Art Policy, looks forward to working with the public and county agencies on future applications, to promote public art on County property.
