Santa Rosa, CA – May 9, 2017 – The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has established a new ongoing committee to advise the Board on pension related matters and is encouraging community members to apply. The goal of the Independent Citizen’s Pension Committee is to provide recommendations that will
further the Board’s efforts to ensure a more fair, equitable, and sustainable County pension system. The committee is intended to bolster community engagement, add insight and value to a challenging and complex process, and build an improved understanding for all parties.
Committee will be composed of seven individuals who will be appointed in July 2017 and will be asked to serve either two-year or three-year staggered terms, with an anticipated time commitment of 8-10 hours per month to attend meetings and review materials. Ideal committee members will have the ability and
commitment to listen and weigh information with an open mind, engage and fully participate in the development of recommendations, and bring professional skills and expertise and/or the ability to articulate a perspective from their experience which represents the diversity of our community. Since much of the
information related to pension systems is of a financial nature, demonstrated aptitude in dealing with financial information would be very helpful.
Individuals who are interested in consideration for appointment should submit a special Independent Citizen’s Pension Committee application form by 5:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2017. The application form is located on the County’s website:
