Santa Rosa, CA – August 22, 2017 – The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors appointed Rob Giordano to serve as the Sheriff-Coroner for the County of Sonoma during their August 22ndBoard meeting. Sheriff Giordano will fill the position that became vacant following the retirement of former Sheriff Steve Freitas on August 1, 2017.
State law requires that the Board of Supervisors fill vacancies for publicly elected positions.
“With over 28 years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, Sheriff Giordano is extremely qualified to assume this new role,” said Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Shirlee Zane. “He has spent his career working tirelessly to protect our local community. He is an exceptional
listener and communicator, and has shown a strong collaborative spirit in working with the Board, criminal justice partners, and the community. The Board looks forward to continuing this collaboration in his new role.”
Sheriff Rob Giordano started his law enforcement career with the Pittsburg Police Department in 1989. In 1996 he was employed as a Deputy Sheriff with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2003. In 2006, Mr. Giordano became a Lieutenant, and in that role managed the Investigations
Bureau, Internal Affairs Bureau, and later the Personnel Bureau. Mr. Giordano was promoted to Captain in 2012, and became the Assistant Sheriff in 2014, where he oversaw the large and diverse Law Enforcement Division. As Sheriff, Mr. Giordano’s appointment will extend through January 7, 2019. His salary will
be $209,797, the established single salary for the Sheriff-Coroner.

Sheriff Giordano and his wife have lived in Santa Rosa for 21 years, where they raised their 20 year old son, and enjoy spending time with him and his girlfriend as they attend the Santa Rosa Junior College. The Sheriff spends most of his free time outdoors, fishing and free diving in the ocean.
