Energy and Water Savings Toolkits Available

Do-It-Yourself Toolkits available for check-out at Sonoma County Library branches

Santa Rosa, CA  –  July 19, 2017  –  The Board of Supervisors approved an agreement today to implement the Do-It-Yourself Energy and Water Savings Toolkit Program, which will allow library cardholders throughout the County to check out toolboxes to help them save energy and water. The Sonoma County Energy and Sustainability Division and the Sonoma County Water Agency have partnered with Sonoma County Library and Sonoma Clean Power to provide these tools and information to help community members perform simple home upgrade projects to help make their homes more efficient.

“As a pilot program, the Do-It-Yourself Toolkits were very popular, demonstrating that homeowners as well as renters are looking for ways to increase energy efficiency and water conservation in their homes,” said Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Shirlee Zane. “Today, we made this an ongoing program and are tripling the number of free toolkits available, in line with our commitment to environmental stewardship.”

The toolkits can currently be checked out at the Guerneville, Sebastopol, and Central Rosa branches of the Sonoma County Library and will be available at all library branches in the coming months. The kits assist residents in performing home projects such as weather stripping for windows and doors, monitoring electrical use, determining water leaks, and switching to light-emitting diode lightbulbs, which all help make homes more efficient. Items intended for installation and use are replenished after each kit is returned.

In addition, the Energy and Sustainability Division offers home energy and water savings workshops at library branches throughout the County for the public to learn about the toolkits as well as additional resources that are available to increase energy efficiency, water conservation, solar, and financing options. To find out more about the workshop dates and locations call the Energy and Sustainability Division office at 707-565-6470.
