Sheryl Bratton Selected as Next Sonoma County Administrative Officer

Ms. Bratton’s 24 years of public sector and Sonoma County experience will enable her to successfully serve the community, Board of Supervisors, and County employees

Santa Rosa, CA  –  August 31, 2016  –  SANTA ROSA, Calif. – For Immediate Release – After a nationwide search and extensive interview process, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors selected Sheryl Bratton as their next County Administrator. Ms. Bratton has a broad base of experience and knowledge of Sonoma County that will provide a strong foundation for effectively serving in the County’s chief administrative role. When announcing the offer, Chairman Efren Carrillo stated, “Ms. Bratton has the vision and experience to move the County forward in a way that balances fiscal responsibility with addressing critical community needs. Ms. Bratton impressed the Board with her understanding of the issues and innovative problem solving abilities. She has consistently demonstrated her ability to tackle the most challenging issues, work collaboratively, and lead effectively. We are looking forward to working with Ms. Bratton to strengthen the County organization and advance community priorities.

Ms. Bratton has 24 years of public sector service experience with 14 years in senior management positions. She currently serves as Assistant Sonoma County Counsel. Ms. Bratton has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a law degree from the University of San Francisco, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning from the University of California Berkeley. As Assistant County Counsel, Ms. Bratton manages the Office’s staff and budget and has worked closely with the Board, County department heads, and local government leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Ms. Bratton played an instrumental role in helping the Board accomplish key priorities such as the transition of the County landfill, SMART financing, and key Open Space District acquisitions. As County Administrator, Ms. Bratton will oversee County services and operations, which includes a 4,000-employee work force and $1.6 billion budget.

In accepting the offer, Ms. Bratton stated, “I am honored to serve the Board and community as Sonoma County’s next County Administrator. I feel passionately about public service, and am looking forward to the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Board, County department heads and staff, community-based organizations, other local and regional governments, and members of the community to advance key strategic initiatives and priorities while sustaining the County’s long term fiscal health.”

The Board of Supervisors began the job search after current CAO Veronica Ferguson announced her retirement in May. The Board will consider Ms. Bratton’s contract at its September 13, 2016, meeting. Ms. Bratton resides in Penngrove with her wife and daughter, and it is anticipated that she will begin her new role in October.
