Federal Income Tax Bill Prompts Questions About Pre-Paying Property Taxes – What Sonoma County Property Owners Should Know

Santa Rosa, CA  –  December 27, 2017  –  The Sonoma County Tax Collector is receiving a number of inquiries from property owners who wish to “pre-pay” property taxes prior to January 1, 2018, resulting from the federal tax bill with a new $10,000 limit on state and local taxes that may be deducted for federal income tax purposes.

Property owners who wish to pay the second installment of the 2017-2018 property tax bill before January 1, 2018, may do so this month. Payment options are as follows:

Pay Online

To make payments online, go to http://www.sonoma-county.org/tax, and select the link to “Pay or view your property taxes online.” Online payments can be made using a credit card, debit card, or E-Check. Please note that there is a 2.34% transaction fee charged on all credit/debit card payments and $1.50 transaction fee on E-Check payments.

Pay by Telephone

Credit card, debit card, and E-Check payments are accepted over the telephone. Please note that there is a 2.34% transaction fee charged on all credit/debit card payments and $1.50 transaction fee on E-Check payments. To pay by telephone, call toll-free to 1-888-636-8418.

Pay by Mail

Checks should be made payable to the Sonoma County Tax Collector. Please include the payment stub from the tax bill and mail to:

Important notes

Property owners may not pre-pay their 2018-2019 property taxes. The 2018-2019 property tax payments cannot be made until the tax bills are generated and mailed in September/October 2018.
